5 “Underground” Websites for Design Inspiration

Let’s face it, design inspiration is an overexploited topic produces thousands of articles curating all the same website lists. I know you might be bored of clicking on all those flashy titles only to find the same piece of content inside. This is why I gathered a list of design inspiration sources that help you get a different perspective on design. Although some of them might be popular among certain communities, they can be rediscovered as powerful idea generation resources.

Neon Mob

Trading cards just became cool again.

NoenMob

Neon Mob is the place art design and cards collecting mix together. This website is an unusual yet quite intriguing design community that revolves around the creation, submission and trading of custom-made digital cards. If you’ve played Dixit, the popular cards board game, you’ll have a hint of what the site’s all about. Most of the card collections celebrate abstract design but the site features much more design styles. No matter if you’re into graphic design or you’re more of an illustrator, you’ll love this website.

Muzli

Who knew the Chrome’s web app store can be such a great place for finding new design treasuries?

Muzli

While browsing through the Chrome web store I stumbled upon one of the many personal dashboard apps around. Already hooked on Momentum, I didn’t really thought I’d like it as much as I  would change it to my default dashboard browser app, but it turned out I was wrong.

Muzli blew up my mind with its huge variety of graphic content. The app curates all kinds of design content including news, freebies and interviews. Just watch out, opening new tabs on your browser may become addictive.

Ello

I first heard of Ello through a Facebook post. It’s funny because the aspirations of Ello’s founder include creating an actual Facebook substitute.

Ello

The site targets Facebook users who are tired of being flooded with ads and sold out to big corporations in the form of personal data. Ello promises an ad-free experience and easy socialisation via a sleek feed with a brushed up design. Yet, it is actually more than a simple social media stream.

Ello mixes the social aspects of Facebook, the image curation of Tumblr and the scrapbooking functionality of Pinterest. Right now, the website is in its early stages of development and works best as a go-to source for great photography and design examples but it may grow, so keep an eye on it for more updates.
